I never thought you'd leave me,
alone to hide my fate.
I should have known you were dying,
but I knew it all too late.

So now you're on the other side,
with the angels taking flight.
Now I sit alone and cry,
in bedroom late at night.

I'm sorry you had to leave me,
sorry I wasn't there.
To hold you close, and safely,
and kindly stroke your hair.

But now I know you're in a better place,
and I know we'll never part.
Because no matter where you may go,
you'll always be in my heart.

I know how you feel... we just found out my cat, Sweetie, has diabetes and she won't last long. Well done, you capture the grief well.
