I Climbed A Mountain To Reach You, by Don't build lies on ice cubes. Subscribe to rss feed for Don't build lies on ice cubes.

I took a journey of love
By the age of twenty-two
A long and winded road I travelled
Until I started to climb to you

I remember those who came before
Although the memories have begun to fade
I do remember how if they hadn't left
Then you would never have stayed

And this journey that I travelled
Is one known to all and yet to none
Stories I've tuned and narrowed
Until you are the only one

I saw you from a distance
I knew you from before
You knew me when I wasn't yours
But the story you never saw

You dont know details of how I loved
And have even less knowledge of how I cried
You dont know that my life began with you
Since before it my heart had died

I stood at the bottom of a mountain one day
Full of pain, loss and regret
I stood at the base so couldnt see the peak
And began to climb in order to forget

The first step was a little rocky
My footing was confused at the new terrain
But I began to climb slowly upward
Never to walk forwards again

A crowd of lovers heckled from below
Shouting in their unending selfish greed
But the mountain I climbed felt like home
It offered me everything I would need

It was my strength when I stumbled
And it was my roots to the earth below
It was my shelter from the noise of the people
And it waited patiently as I began to grow

I never realised until I opened my eyes
That I had climbed upward without my sight
I never knew that I felt my way to the peak
Until I stared out from that all mighty height

And at the top of the mountain I found my peace
I found the end of travels by twenty-two
Not the end of the road but a journey to the heavens
To stand on top of the world with you

At this height I can see the electricity of the stars
Drink from the clouds so that they can be free
I can feel the beauty of air after the thunderstorm
And I can hear like music your love for me

In darkness there's the fear of falling
To the words and jeers of the crowd we left at bay
But the light fills us to transparency
And on top of my mountain forever I'll stay

WOW! This is an amazing poem!! What a great metaphor with beautiful imagery! So heart-felt and just... wow! I love it! It's just so.. true? If that makes any sense at all? Beautiful
