My Overcoat (Poem), by YourEyesMyWords Subscribe to rss feed for YourEyesMyWords

Walking down,
This long and lonely road.
This is getting hard,
Trying to keep from going overboard.

Lost your hand,
Because you turned that way.
Leaving me to a dead end,
With nothing to say.

Too bad I dropped my gun,
Now I walk unarmed.
I made myself a shield though,
So nothing would have me alarmed.

Why can't you make me happy,
Anymore?
Was I too much,
In that you had no love to fight for?

I know I wasn't perfect,
And I am aware that I am still not.
But you rearranged this love story,
Into a devious plot.

Left me in the pouring rain,
I'm waiting for lightning to strike.
It's dark and cold out here,
Considering that you turned off my light.

Due to this,
I walked off alone.
Tears falling down my face,
As my love, you have, disowned.

I can't believe,
Or never would've thought.
That God would leave me here,
Without an overcoat.

Through the time,
That i have walked alone though.
I did have another hand to hold,
Which goes to show.

The friends i have,
That smile with eyes opened.
They look at me and watch my back,
Especially when I have fallen and moaned.

Time goes by,
And he's got me now.
The best guy friend,
That's there for me no matter how.

He's got my back,
And teaches me what love is about.
I guess God really did,
Leave me with this overcoat.
