i won't pretend to know your story
i won't send my sympathy
i'll just shoulder some empathy
and give you my highest regards
i'm not saying i have
the slightest idea
i'm not saying that you have
the smallest incling either
it's better to not even
try to pretend
i'm not gonna play like
i know exactly what's going on
i won't play like i
know your history
i'm not gonna say that i
know just what you've been through
as long as you admit that
you've never been through my time
you don't know the beginning
and i'm sure you won't
stick around for the ending
not that i'm asking
no, i'm just assuming
this isn't a judge of your character
in fact, this is nothing in particular
just thought i'd send a little reminder
to let you know i'm not a fake
i won't tell you that i
know all the answers
i don't know how it started
or why this is it
i don't manufacture those
storybook endings
and happily ever afters are for those
who are luckiest
let's go by the script, shall we?
what's in it for me?
something completely different
from what's in it for you
so let's cut to the chase
i don't know your history
and i'm pretty sure that
you just don't know mine
let's shake hands and find
some sort of agreement
i'll write you something pretty
you'll send me a little letter
please tell me you signed it
with highest regards
hold back the sympathy
save me the empathy
because these types of stories
are written for one
