My Icarus and The Fall, by Anathema Subscribe to rss feed for Anathema

your smile slides off your face
in the most graceful way
and the tears crawl so gorgeously
down your cheeks
devouring your heart
while your ears stitch themselves up
blocking out the sound
of me pushing you down

it wasn't supposed to be this way
i never meant to hurt you
but the truth is,
the truth is..
the truth is
today is the day
today is the day
i never wanted to let you go,
but your fall was so beautiful,
the expression painted on your face
like porcelain shattering
a thousand shards shotgunned into my heart
your hands were flailing,
grasping helplessly for an open arm
but i had none left to save you,
because
saving us
would tear. me. apart.

i know,
 i told you,
 we'd be Forever

i pushed you over the edge
looked like you were soaring,
plummeting straight to the bottom,
your wings melting down.
icarus never looked so beautiful as you,
darling, with your black gaping eyes,
and your fragmented heart,
weeping it's crumbled lament,
but my eyes are like the desert,
hungry for your moisture.
it's all i yearn for.
to see this un.done.

today is the day
today is the day
today is the day

i let. you. go.

i told you i'd always love you

today is the day

i never meant to hurt you

today is the day

it had to happen like this

today is the day

i'm finished with this

i let you go

i pushed you over the edge

i let you go

                              let me go.
