BEYOND BORDERS

The star,
The moon, and he promised me more,
I was on my own with my contempt life,
When a man visited my parents,
I will never forget his face, not in my entire life,
It was that face that ended my perfect quiet life,
He told us that the sun sets in Nigeria but Diamonds sets in Europe.
We believed him,
I believed him,
And for uneducated people the idea sounded convincing.
I have never heard such sweet words before,
His words were sweeter than honey from the rarest type of bees,
Favor was what he called it,
He said he could change my destiny if only we let him,
And just like that we let him.
And everything changed!!!
He changed,
I don’t know how but things changed,
Europe wasn’t heaven,
Europe was a modified hell.
I saw the Eiffel tower,
But I never showered,
It was pretty until he showed me,
He showed me the real thing,
And when I refused to see,
He forced me and took away my dignity.
Nothing hurts more than that,
There is no pain as terrible as that,
I mean what kind of person will do that.
I was far from home,
Far away from my family and he made sure of that.
At first it was only him,
Then he suddenly began bringing buddies and things turned ugly,
I couldn’t run,
I couldn’t drive and he made sure to lock the house,
I sold my freedom,
I had my pride taken away,
I was stripped of every ounce of honor,
He turned me into his toy,
And nobody noticed me choking on the street
And when I finally ran,
I ran faster than a speedster,
I ran like there was a monster behind me,
But truly he was a monster, a really horrible one that almost took away my life,
I returned to my family never to be the same,
Although everybody prayed and stayed beside me,
I was never going to be the same and they knew it,
So I tell you,
Stay on your own side of the border,
It is a safer option.
I never got one.
