When they tell you that we are all our stereotypes
Please do not believe that.
When they paint us on the news in crime and addiction
Please do not believe that either.
When they feed you fear of what is darker
Rise above. Don’t be afraid.
Because the reality is we are the ones who fear
For our lives day after day
after day.
When they gather our men by the hundreds and thousands
And pack them up in cells
Stand up for them against the wrong.
Know that we can’t stand up for ourselves.
When they shoot our children and claim it was deserved
Think twice. You know the truth.
Color should not determine the value of life.
We’re all human in the end.
