The Average Person, by Leslie Thomson Subscribe to rss feed for Leslie Thomson

Just who is this average person,
Of whom the media speak?
Is this the white collar worker,
Earning six hundred pounds per week?

Married with 2.4 children,
And works from 9 to 5?
Lives in a middle-class suburb,
With two cars in the drive?

Does a big shop once a month,
At an edge of town retail park?
Goes to church every Sunday,
And gets up with the lark?

With 28 days annual leave,
To use up every year?
Which the use in foreign climes,
Going far but never near?

The more and more I think of it,
This perception cannot be so;
For the average person sure as hell ain't me,
Nor anyone I know.
