Timeless Love, by Leslie Thomson Subscribe to rss feed for Leslie Thomson

Elderly couple on a bench,
Enjoying the day for the day.
Talking of nothing and everything,
Just passing the time away.

Withered fingers are entwined,
As the couple sit there chuckling,
At the comical sight they see,
Of a duck going by with her ducklings.

The careworn, wrinkled faces meet,
As each other turns a head.
And through tired eyes they know,
No words need to be said.

She leans her small frame into his,
As he protects her from the weather;
Not caring what anyone thinks;
They are growing young together.

(For an elderly couple I saw at Blackford Pond, Edinburgh.)
