The Compass, by Lisa Marie Cole Subscribe to rss feed for Lisa Marie Cole

Safe and sound
The world makes sense
We go about our days
Around us a sturdy fence

Then one day
A change in the wind
The course now diverted
The compass just spins

The map upside down
The navigation is lost
No beacons to guide
My sense of direction the cost

The fence is now gone
Blown clear away by the winds
No protection around me
The mainsail in ruins

The fence was just an illusion
Not protection at all
Shielding from intrusion
But never in love could I fall

Now no boundaries around me
No bind on my heart
Now open to love
No sign to keep out

I look ahead past the storm
Something reflects in my eyes
The dawn of a new day
Its bright clear blue skies

A map upside down
Is really not wrong
For my compass inside
Was true North all along

A straight path is only a straight path
It means nothing more
Its the sideways, and crooked streets,
And......the Backdoors

That truly illuminate
And show us the light
Like the stars up above
The maps of the night

There are no directions
No signposts or guides
Just a blind journey
That we must abide
And, if in the end
We didn't break, but bend
Then life's storms and heartaches
Were all worth the ride
