Coping with Inequalities, by Cpick Subscribe to rss feed for Cpick

AN ESSAY

I have found it difficult to grasp that our country has had
such racial biases, and continues to have these prejudices,
even though we are supposed to be a country of racial
equality. A Place at the Table presents to my mind a
troubling view of America because minorities still go
through the same hardships in present day life as in the
past.
Our government puts on this front, saying every man has
been created equal in the sight of our established
authorities, but I feel that this front is merely for
political reasons. I personally think that it is absolutely
ridiculous for a man who is deemed as honest to be unable to
simply rely on his morals and personal beliefs to get him
through life. There yet again, it’s all about playing his
or her card correctly to be voted into office thus showing
American politics as they are.
Majority of the time I’m very proud of our country and
it’s advancement in both the technological world and
economical growth. But when one sees the injustice that
some of our people, citizens of the United States, created
equal, have been through and dealt with due to racial or
financial inequalities, it infuriates me. Why is it that
people continue to hold fast to the immature beliefs of the
white race being superior to that of any minority,
especially in our country, the United States of America!
These people are no better for thinking themselves higher
than they ought, but are simply all the more inferior to
those who think the opposite.
All man kind was created equal; some simply have a
different place in the world, that doesn’t mean to look
down on someone because of his or her occupation, color,
finances, or religion. If anyone thinks that he or she is
more privileged in our society because of anything shy of
their personality or character, they are all the more
ignorant to the true virtues of a human being.
When a person gives a fellow being a specific label because
of their appearance, it merely solidifies that person’s
insecurities. If one thinks that to have respect is to act
out of hatred they are sorely mistaken and have yet to take
the time to truly get to know someone of another origin.
I have a deep since of sadness within my heart because of
the pain and the struggles our fellow Americans has dealt
with simply because of racial differences and tradition.
