Old Shoes, by Lunaria Subscribe to rss feed for Lunaria

Old Shoes
Walking on the sidewalk
Marking it with chalk
There a hole, here a crack
Feeling the strain in my back

Bumping along in worn out shoes
Singing the sad, sad blues
Here a hole , there a tear
Of shoes I need a brand new pair

Looking off to the right
Stopping to scratch a skeeter bite
Seeing tulips, first to come up
To the left a yellow butter cup

Flocks of birds flying high
Their beauty has caught my eye
Red winged black birds on their way
Oh look there's a great big Blue Jay

Up above a gray rain cloud
If it rains on me I'll cry out loud
I don't feel like getting wet
I haven't got my new shoes yet

Came to a yard sale with many, many shoes
There were so many it was hard for me to choose
Tan ones, black ones, some had velcro, some had ties
But not one of them was in my size.

So I guess I'll bump along in my worn out shoes
Want to sing along with me the sad, sad blues?
These old shoes are like a dear, dear friend
And I guess our friendship isn't going to end.
