Who am I today?
I spot the pretender
And hear her too when she
Sweet talks and hides the blues

She takes over who I was
As she uses my smile
To captivate another soul
That arrives with no shield

He smiles back with admiration
But in his eyes, I don't see
A future soulmate, nor passion
No chemistry - just an experiment

Brainwashed to watch out
For our own hearts
We tune out the beating of those
Belonging to the innocent
