A Memory of My Father & I, by Darren Oxton Subscribe to rss feed for Darren Oxton

So twenty five years have been and gone,
Whilst the sun no longer shines like on that day,
Twisting rays of yellow light, that once engulfed the bay,
Brushed aside, or hidden from sight, but memories that never
fade away,
Twenty five years have been and gone since,
My father once last saw his son,

The last day, when you held my hand,
Clearly, impressed upon the mind, branded deeply there,
Was sure your eyes began to well, but did you really care?
As the clouds broke over blackened sands,
You said how you would leave this England,

To fight a dangerous menace so much further far away,
It was all that you could do, you said for me and for my
mum,
At first I thought he can't be right, he must be making
fun,
But never did I see you, not a single bloody day,
Still, I think about you though,

'Hi Dad'- I so long to say.
