Living in the streets, by LostSoul Subscribe to rss feed for LostSoul

The world has changed
From the last time I saw you
You look like you've been deranged
Remembered how you asked me for some change
This world has been cruel to you
And for that I am sorry
And I try not to worry

Living here in this rundown cardboard
With nothing to do but sleep and drink
And roam...

And no matter how it looks you still
Call it home
A home of your own.

We talked once of how life was turned upside down
Of how everything you touched burned to the ground
We talked about the wars you've been in
And the things you've seen
And of how things changed when you came back
Like the world has turned it's back

From the men and women who have served
To let you sit here in the street what nerve

I talked of my wars and my adventures
Of how my men laughed and joked and ventured
Just like we were there together
Old buddies talking like it was forever
Talking about the wars we fought
Bonding like the Band of Brothers
Of how it used to be for you
And how it used to be for me

I give you coffee
I give you some money
I want to give you more
But there's so much more
You need
That I cannot give

I want to help I ask
And you say there is nothing you can do
My time is near
And my brain has 'bout disappeared

I wave goodbye
Knowing this might be the last time
Of seeing an old friend being fine
Talking about the lives and experiences
We've both shared.

i really liked that poem much more the story of it rather than anything...it is a good heartfelt and sympathetic poem....good job.

I also like this poem, and it really makes a person think of those less fortunate and the person they really are behind the unfortunate circumstances they live in. Very nicely done.
